Barbara Epplett

Way back in the third grade I started sketching, doodling and making pictures with my crayolas. Much of my time was spent practicing the piano or pipe organ, I feared that I would never have enough time to develop my passion for art.
Through high school and college I kept sketchbook journals. After graduate school, I spent summers as a tour guide in Europe and continued my sketching and journaling.
In my retirement years I have embraced my love of painting, and have learned to use tools such as watercolors, marker pens, charcoal and colored pencils. I use yellow and orange to express my cheerful personality, blues to extend condolence and feelings of sympathy. Rose and violet colors express my sensuality and reds convey my secret boldness. Sometimes I paint from my sketches or photographs. I frequently sketch in plein-air, and enjoy visiting gardens with their profusion of flowers and variety of colors. In my drawings and paintings I try to communicate the color and rhythm of music.
